I remember taking Signals and Systems in my bachelor's course of study. Plato's allegory of the cave is so basic a concept to understand but it's relative simplicity betrays it's application.

Specially in case of cognitive biases, we remain mired in the so-called obviousness of whatever we perceive and we remain mindless of what's at play.

Emotions are one of the factors that add color and hue to our mental canvas. So, an essential skill to learn is to disarm strong, hard emotions as we encounter the situation in front of us.

Diffuse, Process and Reflect:

Two aspects to consider when overwhelmed is to, firstly, defer emotive processing to a later time and space while creating distance between you and your emotions and, secondly, revisit your feelings later. You'll think differently and nonchalantly.
