Dreamer, or Accountant?
There are domains in life where our approach towards life is as of a dreamer or as of an accountant and sometimes mixed. Both approaches are useful and helpful and have their merits. The life's task is to figure out in which context we can afford to be a dreamer or an accountant. If I dare say, that in ideal situation, quantitatively as well as qualitatively, we'd be working mostly on our dreams most of the time. But this doesn't happen.
When it comes to our dream tasks or projects, we rarely applying ourselves as we are distracted, get side-tracked or have an urgent piece of work to do. Every night as we go to sleep, we come to think of them. But our fantasy projects remain o pipe dream. A vision to bring us solace momentarily as we go to sleep.
Everyone knows that we need to plan and in order to bring our dreams to fruition, allocate time on daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis. It's up to us; whether we are the thinking type or a do-er; whether we adopt a top-down or bottom-up approach or a bit of both; whether we delegate or take it on us to accomplish.
I am all in for dreaming lofty visions and all dreams have a cost including opportunity cost. Therefore, it is, at times, necessary to wear an accountant's cap and estimate time, effort, etc. In a world where prohibitive costs are avoided, we'd be ready to accept constraints and shape our work accordingly.
Some would say that accountancy is far more than restraints and constraints. But when was the last time you realized that creative accounting made us value joy in little things? Or how often has one donned an accountant's cap to realize or abandon one's dream?
